Life in Birre & Quinta da Marinha
Birre begins where the A5 stops. At the Rotunda Delfim Santos, opened in 2016, the road splits north towards Aldeia de Juso and Charneca and south towards Birre, Torre, Areia, Quinta da Marinha and Guincho. Beyond it the density drops: old village cores, walled villa plots and a pine-covered golf estate.

The 18-hole Quinta da Marinha course by Robert Trent Jones (par 71, opened 1984) and Arthur Hills' Oitavos Dunes lie inside or beside the estate.
The Blue Flag beaches of Guincho and Cresmina are to the west; Cascais town, its market and the railway terminus to the east.
Where it is
Birre lies just west and north-west of Cascais town, at the western end of the A5 from Lisbon. Quinta da Marinha stretches south-west from Birre towards the Atlantic at Oitavos.

Homes
Around Quinta da Marinha the stock is detached villas on large plots, many in gated or golf-estate settings; the estate grew from a property founded in the 1920s by Carlos Montez Champalimaud, whose pine planting helped stabilise the dunes. Birre and Torre add villa and townhouse condominiums, and Birre and Aldeia de Juso keep older village houses that come up for renovation. Apartments are the exception.
Before you buy
Parts of the western and northern edge lie within or near the Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais, and which Quinta da Marinha parcels fall inside it must be checked plot by plot on the PDM and Natural Park maps. Ask for the planta de condicionantes to see REN or RAN restrictions before planning an extension. Next to open land, ask the Câmara about the planning status of neighbouring plots.
