Getting around
Infrastructure & access
Alcabideche has no railway; the usual link is a bus or short drive to Estoril station (36 minutes to Cais do Sodré) or Cascais (40 minutes); the line between Caxias and Cascais has night closures for modernisation works since 6 April 2026, expected to end in 2028 (press). MobiCascais lines, including those from the CascaiShopping terminal, are free with the Viver Cascais card; Carris Metropolitana routes are not. A5 exit 9 serves Alcoitão, Bicesse and Manique, exit 10 the hospital and the A16, and exit 11 Alvide. Primary care is at the Centro de Saúde de Alcabideche on Rua Rio das Grades.

Schools & family
Education
IPS Cascais British International School in Bicesse teaches the National Curriculum for England from age 3 to Year 11; a nearby secondary campus was announced for September 2026, but its opening is not confirmed, so ask the school. St. Dominic's (full IB, ages 3–18) is in neighbouring São Domingos de Rana, and CAISL and TASIS Portugal are in Linhó, Sintra municipality. The Deutsche Schule Lissabon closed its Estoril campus from 2026/27 and now teaches all grades in Telheiras, Lisbon. Public schools belong to the Agrupamentos de Escolas de Alcabideche, Ibn Mucana and Alvide.

What you can buy in Alcabideche
The stock is mixed. Alcabideche village, Alvide and Amoreira have apartment blocks and townhouses, often the most accessible way into the municipality for a family. Manique, Bicesse and Alcoitão are mainly condominiums and detached houses, and towards the Serra there are villas and rural plots, many inside the Natural Park. The parish median therefore hides a wide gap between a flat in Alvide and a house near Malveira da Serra.

What to check in Alcabideche
The western and northern parts, including Malveira da Serra and Quinta do Pisão, are inside the Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais, where POPNSC limits on building apply on top of the PDM. Visit homes near the A5, the A16 or the Autódromo at different times, ideally on a race weekend, to judge noise. If you depend on buses, check whether your route is a free MobiCascais line.
